I had first got the book from the library then decided I wanted a copy of my own to use. I’ve started the program and am amazed at how it is working. I like the fact that I don’t have to exercise for an hour a day to make a difference. I’m planning on starting some of the exercises this weekend.

This is Dr. Sears book about his PACE program (known by many as high intensity interval training, or HIIT). Dr. Sears describes in depth how the body responds to cardio vs HIIT and it’s impacts on overall health, weightloss, and lung and heart function.
This book is like watching a 30-minute infomercial – he repeats the information over and over again. It feels like he is trying to sell you on the program; I wish he would remember that presenting the studies, success stories and physiological facts are enough to speak for themselves. The book should be more organized, and honestly, much shorter. The book could be edited down to about a third of it’s size and still contain all the same information.
There are quite a few sample workouts in the book, but you can find information on HIIT workouts on many websites.
This book will definitely teach you the benefits of HIIT from a doctor’s perspective. Now I just have to put in the time to start reaping the rewards.

Got stress? Maybe you should run away! What? Your boss doesn’t let you do a 3 min sprint around the office every time you feel anxious/irritated about something? Don’t have enough $$ for your own private island? Well, me neither. For the last 6-7 years I’ve suffered from panic attacks and all that comes with them (palpitations, weird feelings of dread that come from nowhere, insomnia, etc.), UNTIL I started doing these 20 min workouts on the treadmill, 8 min of which are rest periods. This style of exercise really pumps those nasty stress hormones out of your system and produces lots of feel-good neurotransmitters and natural pain-killers like no other exercise program I’ve ever tried, and believe me, as a 41-year-old female I’ve tried most of them, and PACE tops ‘em all. All exercise ever did for me before was make me even more exhausted, stressed-out and hungrier. Did I mention this program makes your body burn fat like crazy, even when you’re at rest? The only reason I gave this book only 4 stars was because of his dietary advice. Low carb/no carb diets just don’t work for me. The best diet book I’ve found is The Genotype Diet by Dr. D’Adamo. We are NOT all biochemically identical and what dietarily works great for one person is not necessarily right for everyone! Anyway, this book still gets 4 stars from me because the workout is THAT GOOD. (Greatly improved my mood and sex drive too!)
